Its the beginning of Tornado Season, as we have just recently seen in our state. Historically, and statistically, May is the worst month for Tornado's within Oklahoma.
Registering your Tornado Shelter, or Safe Room, is something that would be strongly advised, but not mandatory.
The City of Sapulpa has been maintaining a Safe Room Registry, for the City of Sapulpa, and all areas surrounding Sapulpa, within Creek County, since 2013.
This data is distributed to Emergency Services ONLY. The GIS/Mapping Department gathers the data from citizens that wish to register their shelter. They submit the data via various ways: via our website, by filling out a form at the Fire Department, by permit application in the Permit Office, and by walk-in at the GIS/Mapping Department in the City Hall Annex.
This data is to help with the recovery efforts if a large scale weather event were to ever impact Creek County and the City of Sapulpa area. The locations of the shelters have been GPS'd to the nearest location of the structure via aerial photos, actual latitude/longitude coordinates (if provided), and building plans.
The City of Sapulpa will never distribute this data to any third party entity.
If you have any questions, please contact the GIS/Mapping Department at 918-224-2924 or the Sapulpa Fire Department at 918-224-3359
